Apply Today for the Dropout Challenge Recognition Program
Special Message on the Superintendent’s Dropout Challenge Recognition Program
In June 2009, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan announced a statewide Dropout Challenge. The Challenge asked all elementary, middle and high schools to use their existing student achievement, retention, attendance and behavior data to identify 10-15 students with multiple early warning dropout signs and provide appropriate research-based supports and interventions. As a result, over 1,100 schools and 142 school districts which committed all their schools joined the Challenge.
To acknowledge school and student effort and progress during this Challenge, the Michigan Department of Education has developed a special recognition program. All Dropout Challenge schools are invited to complete a short survey for an opportunity to earn special recognition. In addition, schools may nominate up to three students who have been helped by this Challenge. Selected students will receive a FREE iPad.
So share your success stories and give your students involved in the Challenge a chance to earn an iPad by completing this recognition application survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DOCrecognitionapplication. To view how your application survey will be scored, please visit http://graduationtown.org/article/dropout_challenge_application_rubrics.
Thank you again for your participation and support. You will be notified of your award status in early May. If you have questions regarding this recognition program, contact Leisa Gallagher, Dropout Challenge Coordinator, at lgallagher@cenmi.org, (517) 749-1214.
